Vail deserves real affordable housing solutions.

2A doesn’t solve the problem.

While well intended, 2A falls short of delivering real solutions for Vail’s affordable housing crisis and doesn’t generate enough tax dollars to address our housing crisis. Additionally, the ballot language only approves the tax increase but leaves it up to the Town Council to fill in all the details about how the money will be spent nor does it use the term "affordable" in it. 2A has no sunset, giving Town Council a blank check on how to spend funds, and there’s no citizen’s oversight to guarantee these tax dollars will be spent as promised.

2A favors large corporate hotel chains who send their profits out of Vail and out of state over long-time local businesses who solely support employees who work and live in the Vail valley. During these tough economic times, we can’t afford another Booth Heights challenge that hurts our community. Vail deserves a real plan, citizen’s oversight of tax dollars, and a level playing field for our local businesses.

Vote NO on 2A. Vail deserves a better path forward. Vail’s affordable housing solution should make sure all lodging businesses have a stake. Rather than tax one segment of our lodging industry, our coalition proposes an increase to the lodgers tax that ensures all lodging businesses in Vail contribute to funding affordable housing. Unlike 2A, an increase in our lodgers tax would generate funds to sufficiently fund affordable housing projects for our families and workers.

Tell Town Council to go back to the drawing board and create a housing solution that works for Vail families, workers, and businesses.
